Below is a list of recommended resources to help you with the digital spectrum of your business/venture. I personally use most of them, and others I recommend because I’ve read good reviews about them.

Website Platforms

A website platform is the structure on which your website or blog is built. Web Owl Digital runs on WordPress.org

WordPress.org

My top recommendation for a website or blogging platform is pretty obvious – it’s WordPress.org.
For as long as I’ve been building websites, I’ve only been using WordPress. It is also the most popular and widely used website platform today.

WordPress.com

WordPress.com is a free hosted blogging platform, it is not the same as WordPress.org. You can read this article by WPBeginner to help you understand the difference – how are wordpress.com and wordpress.org related.

Domain Registrars

A domain registrar is where you can purchase a domain name for your website, i.e. google.com.

Godaddy

GoDaddy is a domain registrar and a web hosting provider.

NameCheap

NameCheap is one of the most popular and affordable domain registrars, I buy all my domains from them.

Web Hosting

Web hosting is where your website “lives” on the internet. I’ve compiled a list of some of the best
web hosting providers below. You can purchase a domain along with your hosting, or you can purchase it from the recommended domain registrars above.

Bluehost

Bluehost is a popular and reliable hosting provider, I do host one of my other websites with them.

Dreamhost

DreamHost is another popular web host, they’re one of the top 10 best web hosts according to QuickSprout.

Hostgator

I’ve used Hostgator in the past, their customer service is good and honestly never had any issues with their services.

Themes

A theme is the look and feel of your website or blog. There are tons of free and premium themes available, check out the recommendations below. 

Astra

Astra is a free, clean and flexible WordPress theme, it’s perfect for anyone creating their first website. It’s compatible with the Elementor page builder, which is also free. The duo will make it super easy to build your website from scratch.

Hestia

Hestia is a free multipurpose WordPress theme, there is an option to upgrade to the premium version. However, the free version has all the functions you need to get started.  (Also integrates with the Elementor page builder.)

Themeforest

Themeforest is a marketplace which has a wide variety of premium themes to choose from.

Page Builders

A page builder can help you create stunning websites without having to know any code. Building a website doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg!

Gutenberg

Gutenberg is pretty awesome, it is the page builder that comes with WordPress. It is not as simple to use like Elementor or Divi.

Divi

Divi is a premium WordPress theme that allows you to create a website from scratch using their drag and drop page builder.

Elementor

Elementor is a drag and drop page builder for WordPress. It’s got a user-friendly interface, making it dead simple to build dynamic websites. (free version available)

Visual Composer

Visual Composer allows you to create professional websites the ‘code-free’ way, also a page builder for WordPress. (free version available)

Beaver Builder

Beaver Builder offers the same seamless website building experience as the other page builders mentioned above! 🙃 (free version available)

Email Marketing Tools & Services

Email marketing is one of the most overlooked but very important form of marketing. With email marketing, you are able to build relationships with your audience and keep them up to date with what you have to offer. Check out the email marketing recommendations below.

Aweber

Aweber is one of the best and most popular email marketing tools to help you build and grow your email list. You can try Aweber for free and upgrade when necessary.

Mailchimp

Mailchimp is an all one marketing platform focused on email marketing. You can start can grow your email list up to 2k subscribers without paying a dime. (It comes with limitations of course.)

GetResponse

GetResponse is one of the best email marketing services, recommended by the best marketers online. With GetResponse you can grow your email list up to 500 subscribers for free. (limitations – but it’s a start)

ConvertKit

ConvertKit is recommended by the experts in the industry. If you’re really serious about email marketing and if you’re more of an experienced marketer, then ConvertKit is the way to go. You can have a list of 300 subs for free.

Graphic Design Tools

You may need to design logos, brand assets social media graphics etc. Check out the recommendations below.

Canva

Canva is a user-friendly, non-techie graphic design platform that’s used to design social media graphics, presentations and other visual content.

99 Designs

99 Designs is a graphic design service which allows you to work with professional graphic designers from the around the world to build your brand.

Fiverr

Fiverr is an online marketplace which offers freelance services, graphic design being one of the most popular services. You can have a professional logo and other visual content designed for $5, hence ‘Fiverr’.

Google Keep allows you to create to-do lists, set reminders on the go and stay organised. (free with a Google Account.)

Google Docs

With Google Docs you can create and edit text documents for free. No need for premium software. (free with a Google Account.)

Google Sheets

Create spreadsheets effortless with Google Sheets, it works just as good as Excel, and it’s free! Try it! 🙂 (free with a Google Account.)

Google Slides

Create beautiful presentations with Google Slides, at no cost. (free with a Google Account.)

Google Forms

With Google Forms you can create forms, questionnaires and surveys. (free with a Google Account.)
